Talks :

Please click on the link for details of our upcoming talks: August 2025 – April 2026 programme and for our September 2026 – December 2026 programme

Club talks are booked by the Talks Programme Organiser and members are encouraged to pass on any recommendations they may have for good speakers or topics.  The talks take place at the monthly Club meeting at Askham Bryan College between August and April.

The programme attempts to cover a wide range of subject areas delivered by well-known horticulturists, gardeners or plantsmen – usually people who live/work within 50 miles of the College.

From designers and Chelsea Gold medal winners to National Plant Collection holders, caretakers of famous gardens and specialist gardeners – all have been knowledgeable, inspiring, fascinating and fun.

Talks are free to attend for members but non-members may come for a small fee on the door.  There is usually a charge for the special celebrity lecture and the price will be advertised before the event.  For details of this and the full programme of talks for this year please use the link above.

Members are also able to join in the Seed Swap (free) and Garden Magazine & Book Exchange (members donate unwanted gardening books which can be bought for a small donation to the Club).  Speakers may also bring plants for sale where appropriate and there is often a members’ Plant Swap.

The talks take place in the Conference Hall at 7.30 pm and normally last for 1 hour, followed by time for questions and free tea/coffee and biscuits, and the opportunity to catch up with friends.  For directions to the College please visit our contact page.

There is ample FREE parking at the College and disabled parking available with good disabled access.

During the Covid-19 pandemic it was not possible to meet at the College, so we began Zoom meetings so that members could still keep in touch and enjoy a talk online.  This has enabled us to enlist speakers from a wider area and also gives us the added bonus of being able to record the talk, so that those unable to attend can watch it later.
